    New generation VLGC bolsters fleet

The fleet has been strengthened with the commissioning of a brand new 84,000 cubic metre class tanker for liquefied gas at the end of July 2015. Perseverance V, formerly referred to as hull no. 2765, has been built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) at their modern Gunsan production yard.

Thanks to a comprehensive redesign, the new ship boasts 15 per cent lower fuel consumption compared to the preceding generation of this class. Anticipating requirements, it also comes fully equipped with an on-board ballast water treatment system.

Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC) new building project

We are pleased to announce the ordering of a new tanker for liquefied gas to be constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd of South Korea (HHI). The 84,000 m3 LPG carrier is scheduled to be delivered during the summer of 2015.

The new ship will be a welcome addition to our existing VLGCs, Progress and Prospect, which were also built by HHI and have since earned a good reputation in the market.

With renewed focus on cleaner burning fuels, it is expected that LPG will continue to enjoy good demand in addition to other industrial consumption.

Supervision during construction will be coordinated by Transpetrol TM AS. More news to follow once construction commences.

    Farewell to Perseverance & Affinity

Having joined the company as a pair of newbuildings in 2005, it seems especially appropriate that these two sister ships should also depart together. Perseverance (now renamed River Shiner) was delivered to the new owners on 23 January, while Affinity (renamed Emerald Shiner) left our fleet nearly two weeks earlier on 10 January.

The ships have served the company well for over eight years and, as the only two ships in our fleet with ICE-1A notation, they introduced us to a new dimension of ice trade with an array of unique photographs and stories brought back by those serving on board.

We would like to thank all the staff who over the years looked after the ships and for ensuring a smooth change of ownership.
